There is something new in all Tulsa Quik Trip stores, doughnuts. Well, of course, doughnuts at the Quik Trip aren't new, but the fact they are now baking their own is.

News on 6 reporter Rick Wells stopped in at Quik Trip’s kitchens Thursday to see how they do it.

This is the new way Quik Trip is getting pastries for its stores in Tulsa; they are making them themselves, thousands and thousands everyday.

Chris Cadieux with Quik Trip: "doughnuts, fritters cinnamon rolls, cake doughnuts, bismarks, long-johns." About 18 different products. Quik Trip Kitchens, QT’s newest operation. They have spent a couple of years researching how to do this and how they wanted to do it. Then in February the bakers began working to perfect the process and the product. There were several months of that.

Chris Cadieux: "making doughnuts everyday, giving them away to charity, throwing alot of them away." After lots of trial and error, they started selling their own pastries in Tulsa stores around Memorial Day. Chris Cadieux: "these will be filled with either Bavarian Cream or a cherry filling." But my personal favorite just for fun is a doughnut with sprinkles. A cake doughnut, dipped in icing, then hand-dipped in sprinkles.

They bake these products every day seven days a week from about 6am until just after noon. Chris Cadieux: "we put em on trucks deliver them over night and they are fresh in the morning."

He says some customers have begun meeting the trucks when they arrive at the stores. This program is new and they are still evaluating. If it's successful here, they say they would consider opening similar operations in other Quik Trip cities.
