Tulsa is still under a heat advisory thru Sunday.
EMSA took three people to the hospital with heat-related illness Friday and five people Thursday, which prompted the alert. The triple-digit heat has also driven Tulsa-area electricity usage to record levels. PSO says electricity usage has not been this high since August of 2003.
The Red Cross says the best way to prevent heat exhaustion is to avoid strenuous outside activity, stay in the air conditioning as much as you can, drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol, and wear lightweight clothing.
If your heart starts racing, you feel dizzy, nauseous, tired, dehydrated, or you have a headache or muscle cramps, you may be showing signs of heat exhaustion and it's time to head into the air conditioning for a cool drink.
