In just a matter of weeks, Tulsa Public School students will be getting used to new schedules, amid plenty of objection from parents.

Tulsa School board members approved the changes at a packed meeting Monday night, after considering research and safety issues. Supporters say the schedule change will improve student performance, but some parents say it will have a negative impact on their family lives.

Darnel Grier, who opposes the time change: "I think it's going to create a lot of problems with the kids. At McArthur there are a lot of kids that their brothers and sisters walk them to school and pick 'em up and it's too much time for either grade to get into trouble."

Shannon Inhofe, who supports the time change: "You know I realize it will affect some families, but our schools' job is to educate, that's all. It doesn't baby sit, and it doesn't transport, it educates."

Starting this fall, elementary schools will run from 8 AM to 2:45 PM. Middle and high schools from 8:45 AM until 3:30 PM.
