Tulsa drivers are trying to tangle with some downtown detours. Several blocks of downtown streets are closed for construction, leaving many drivers scratching their heads over how to get to important places.
News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson looks at what is causing all the problems.
Most of the streets are torn up in advance of the new downtown arena. Crews are digging to place utility lines to run to the arena. Meanwhile, the project is throwing up roadblocks for downtown drivers. Large parts of Denver - going north to south - and 3rd Street - going east and west - are blocked off, forcing drivers to find new routes downtown.
Drivers who aren't downtown 'every' day say the worst part is it seems 'different' roads are closed each time the head to spots like the downtown post office or the Tulsa Central Library.
Library director Suanne Wymer: "They almost have to as they get here, drive slowly and figure out where the differences are going to be and where they need to turn and the little single lanes, and just kind of expect that when they're coming down here, but most customers are used to that. It's going to be years to construct, or a year or so, and we're going to be wandering around, just trying to get to the courthouse, and the library!"
