An encounter with a peeping Tom. A Tulsa woman woke up early Saturday morning to the sound of a man's voice. He was standing outside her bedroom window, talking dirty.
Tulsa Police caught the man, but as News on 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright explains, they then had to let him go.
Laurie: "It's like who is this and why is he outside my window?†Laurie couldn't believe her ears Saturday morning. The sound of a voice woke her up around 4:30 AM. She first thought it was her TV, but then realized it was a man just outside her bedroom window. "It was really terrifying. My heart was in my throat. I had the phone with me and called 911 and they stayed on with me the whole time and three cop cars showed up within minutes. I was very scared."
Tulsa Police told Laurie, they found footprints outside her window, in the dew. They also dusted her window for prints. "One thing he said was I know you're in there, under the blankets and that scared me more than anything." She had the blinds down and her home alarm set but, still found the experience terribly unsettling, so she warned all her girlfriends and told all the neighbors.
Tulsa Police found a suspect and when he couldn't explain why he was in the neighborhood at 5 AM or why he had grass in the bottom of his pants, they took him downtown for questioning. Even though they felt she he was the suspect, Laurie had never seen his face, so they had to let him go.
But Tulsa Police plan to watch him, because records show he pleaded guilty to a peeping tom charge in Tulsa in 1998.Police say he's had three arrests in Broken Arrow for the peeping. He was charged with indecent exposure in Tulsa County in 1996, but that charge was dismissed by the state. Police say if the prints on Laurie's window belong to the suspect, which could help them make an arrest.
They also checked him against evidence in the serial rapist cases. Tulsa Police say they don't think he is the rapist, but they've been testing every peeping Tom and prowling suspect, just in case.
Tulsa Police really believe this is how the rape cases will be solved, someone reporting a suspicious person in a neighborhood and officers catch them.
