PICHER, Okla. (AP) -- A new landscaping project is planned to help remediate the lead-filled soil in the Tar Creek Superfund site in Ottawa County.

Agrico Services of Tahlequah and Florida-based Winrock Development will plant about 7,800 trees in Picher that the companies say will absorb the lead from the soil.

The president of Agrico Services says Picher is the perfect site for the companies to plant the hybridized Megafolio trees. Harold Ridenhour says it will be the companies' first US plot.

In the fall, the trees will be planted on about 26 acres in the west part of Picher. The trees can absorb all types of harmful particles and encapsulate them.
