Two Tulsa city councilors are fighting for their political lives. Voters will decide next Tuesday whether city councilors Chris Medlock and Jim Mautino will keep their jobs.
An initiative petition forced a recall election for the two councilors whom critics call "anti-growth" and disruptive to city business. News on 6 Reporter Ashli Sims has more.

It looks like a well-oiled machine. A human assembly line with volunteers stuffing, folding, and tying bundles of support

Mona Miller, Homeowners for Fair Zoning President: "for the most part people they dont appreciate they think its rediculous they said they voted for their councilors someone to represent us and that's who they want.

Petitions were circulated last year to recall Mautino and Medlock. Critics say the two are part of a voting bloc that disrupts city business. They've also been called anti-growth because of no annexation signs against the annexation of part of North Tulsa County. The embattled councilors have fought the recall effort on the council and in court, challenging the validity of the petition signatures. Now after almost nine months the recall election is just days away.

Jim Mautino, City Council Dist 6: "oh I feel good about that i feel good about the election we're getting a lot of support."

But the opposition is making their voices heard, as we found it when we tried to interview Chris Medlock. A man interupted our interview saying " well i'm sorry but these people lie. And they do it in God and Jesus' name...". He showed up to disrupt the rally and was later asked to leave.

The Coalition for Responsible Government has spearheaded the recall effort. And they're also trying to drum up support with signs popping up all over town.

Chris Medlock, City Council Dist 2: "they're putting signs up that say 'FOR Tulsa' and they're putting them next to our signs to make people believe that the way to support me is to vote for me… the way to support tulsa is to vote against recall.

How best to support Tulsa will soon be in the hands of voters. They'll decide the political future of Medlock and Mautino next Tuesday. Ashli Sims The News on 6 Tonight.
