You think the gas prices are bad for Tulsa area motorists. Just try your luck at a nearby lake. The News on 6 headed out to Lake Keystone Friday.
Of course just getting there is expensive; it was $46 to fill up our van. And gas mileage takes a dive when you're dragging a 3,000 pound boat behind you. We calculated that it cost us $26 in gas just to drive our boat for 10 minutes across the lake.
But according to the Corps of Engineers and local marinas, the extra burden hasn't slowed down lake-goers one bit. Michael Duren with Pier 51 Marina: "Nah, not at all. We got guys in "E" dock and "D" dock that put $1,100 worth of gas in their boat on week ends. Doesn't slow them down."
Good thing too, because the lakes are a huge economic booster. Fort Gibson, Keystone, and Skiatook draw more than 2-million people during the summer months.
Gas at Keystone Lake is about $2.50 a gallon.
