There's nothing more American than fireworks. But you don't have to blow a hole in your wallet to have fun.

The News on 6 went shopping at Jake's Fireworks, with the help of Jake himself. You can blow $50 on one monster firecracker. But to stretch your money, he suggests getting a variety of big and small, because it doesn't take as much to impress the younger kids. And there will likely be a lot of idle time during the daylight hours.

Jacob Marietta: "Keep the kids busy during the day and stuff to make the neighbors jealous at night."

He says people spend an average of $50, for which we got four shopping bags full of stuff.

The News on 6 found one youngster, who was spending $300 of his own money on fireworks for the 4th.
