WASHINGTON, DC (AP) -- The Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma and Southeastern Oklahoma State University are each getting federal grants to improve Indian education.
The Pawnees will receive more than $233,000 to help prepare 3- and 4-year olds for kindergarten, improve high school graduation rates and prepare Indian students for college while preserving their language and culture.
Southeastern is getting more than $168,000 to work with the Choctaw Nation to provide a training program to graduate more American Indian teachers.
Both grants are from the US Department of Education as part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
