OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is getting ready for the long Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Lieutenant Brandon Kopepasah says the OHP is taking part in the nationwide Combined Accident Reduction Effort, or CARE.
Kopepasah says troopers will be focusing on drinking drivers, speeding and seat belt and child restraint seat usage. And Lieutenant George Green says the Lake Patrol will be checking boaters, including making sure there is a life jacket for each person on board and equipment such as lights and horns are working properly.
Kopepasah says six people were killed in traffic accidents during the July Fourth holiday weekend last year and one person died in a boating accident.
AAA Oklahoma estimates about 430,000 Oklahomans will travel by car at least 50 miles during the weekend.
