17 month old baby killed in a Tulsa shooting incident

A man is in custody in the weekend shooting death of a 17-month-old boy. Witnesses say Eric Rentie confronted Marva Alexander in front of a home near Cincinnati and Mohawk late Saturday night.

They say Rentie began yelling at Alexander and pulled a gun out of his waistband. He fired 2 shots into the car; one struck 17 month old Deonta Alexander in the head. The baby died at the hospital.

Rentie turned himself in two hours later and reportedly confessed shooting into the car, but says he didn't mean to shoot the baby. Witnesses have a different story. Kenneth Brooks: "He took his gun up and she said donâ€™t shoot my baby's in the car and he shot in the car, twice."

Officers also arrested Marvin Alexander at the scene for obstruction, after a struggle with officers.

Alexander says Rentie fired several shots into the air and pointed a gun at him earlier in the day, near the Sunset Apartment complex.

Rentie does have two convictions on his record for felony larceny and assault and battery.
