Judging by her desk full of awards you might peg Tiffany Grant as a chronic over-achiever. She's got medals, plaques and ribbons for everything from citizenship and service to quilting.
But her latest award caused quite a stir in the Grant household.
John Grant, Father: "I thought she had cutoff an arm and a leg the way she was carrying on. "
A $25,000 college scholarship can do that too you.
Tiffany Grant, Scholarship Winner: "I was really surprised but I was so thankful too I was really grateful because that'll pay for almost two years of my college so I was like yeah."
Talking to her now, its hard to believe she didn't utter a word until she was four years old.
Tiffany Grant: "I had unintelligible speech since second grade...â€
Tiffany has auditory processing disorder. When she was a toddler, the doctors told her parents she would probably be better off in an institution. But 12 years of hard work with speech therapists proved them wrong.
Tiffany Grant: "it maybe kind of a curse but it maybe a blessing in disguise is how I always thought of it."
The blessing is the adversity bred a fighter and someone who truly believes in helping others. That's why Tiffany started granting Prom Wishes three years ago. She's built a non-profit organization from the ground up that helps needy girls have one night as a princess.
John Grant, Father: "she always tried to do things for other people was more interested in helping others and seeing to it that they got some things instead of grabbing for herself."
Now the 17 year-old is being rewarded for her good deeds and her determination. And $25,000 will go a long way towards helping her meet her next goal, college.
