OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Scott Meacham has been sworn into office as Oklahoma's 17th state treasurer.
Meacham is switching from director of the Office of State Finance to the treasurer position. He'll continue in Governor Brad Henry's cabinet.
The 42-year-old former Elk City banker said Wednesday that he's moving from an accountant's role to a more familiar job, since the state treasurer is really the state's banker.
Meacham replaces outgoing Treasurer Robert Butkin, who resigned his post to become the new law school dean at the University of Tulsa.
Meacham will make $87,875 dollars, less than the $98,000 he received annually for being finance director.
In the last two-and-a-half-years, Meacham has been Henry's lead negotiator on key legislative issues, including the state lottery and negotiations on tobacco and gaming compacts with American Indian tribes.
