A Craig County family is one step closer to justice after a man confesses to killing two teenage girls.
Authorities say Jeremy Jones has admitted he killed Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible of Welch in 1999. 6 in the Morning reporter Omar Villafranca says Craig County Sheriff Jimmie Sooter called Lauria Bible's mom Tuesday to tell her Jones confessed he killed the two girls.
Investigators say Jeremy Jones actually confessed to the killings back in January. But they had to keep the confession under wraps while Alabama detectives built another murder case against Jones.
Jones is in an Alabama prison serving time on other murder charges. Investigators went there earlier this year to question him about the case. And that's when the Tulsa native started telling investigators details.
They say Jones told them he killed Ashley's parents over an unpaid debt, and then set their house on fire. When the two girls ran out of the house, Jones says he pretended he was going to get them help. Instead, he drove them to Kansas, then shot them and dumped their bodies in a hole.
The confession didn't surprise one victims' mother who has suspected Jones for months. But one part of the confession police told her stuck with her. Victim’s mom Lorene Bible: "that usually when he shoots and kills people, whatever, he doesn't care, but the girls were the only thing he showed remorse for." Lorene Bible says now she just wants justice and to find her daughters body.
Jones is also charged with murder in Georgia and Louisiana and suspected in several other killings in Oklahoma.
Investigators say they'll search for the girls' bodies in a mine near Galena, Kansas the week of June 20th.
