CLAYTON, Okla. (AP) -- Residents of the southeastern Oklahoma town of Clayton are upset after finding dozens of tombstone's at the local cemetery pulled from the ground and stacked in piles.
Investigators say the believe city workers removed the stones so a lawnmower would fit through tight spaces and Police Chief Carroll Sharp says he's hoping prosecutors press charges.
City officials say the headstones weren't taken intentionally and the city crew thought it was removing surface rocks from the area.
Clayton is located in northwester Pushmataha County, just south of Sardis Lake.
