A Collinsville High School freshman was honored for being an outstanding volunteer Monday.
Christine Blue was presented with a bronze medallion for being a distinguished finalist in the 2005 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Christine organized a car wash and silent auction that raised nearly $1,500 to buy Christmas presents and throw a holiday party for kids whose parents are in jail.
That's something Christine says she can relate too, because her father's been incarcerated for five years. "I can actually relate to what they’re going through and help them out through it. I really enjoy helping other people. I don't really need the awards, feeling good about helping other people, makes me feel even better."
Christine finished third in the state out of all the applicants for the community awards program.
