TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- An Oologah paramedic who was beaten and stabbed at an ambulance station received a commendation Thursday from the governor and state Senate.

Emily O'Banion is being praised for stopping an armed robber who beat and stabbed her in an effort to steal morphine from the station. She's also credited with saving the life of her partner who was sleeping when the attack began early on the morning of May second.

O'Banion received the commendations at the hospital where she is still undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.

Allen Weddle of Oologah is charged with three felonies in the attack and remains in the Rogers County Jail on $400,000 bond.
