LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- A jury in Lawton returned this morning to begin the penalty phase of the trial of a man convicted of killing a state trooper in rural Cotton County.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Ricky Ray Malone, who was convicted yesterday of first-degree murder in the December 26th, 2003, death of Trooper Nik Green.

Malone was convicted of killing Green as Green tried to arrest him for operating a suspected mobile methamphetamine lab.
