OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Convicted sex offenders who are pardoned or paroled would have to wear a Global Position System device under a bill passed by the state Senate today.
Senator Charles Wyrick says the GPS monitors would allow law enforcement to better keep track of the whereabouts of sex offenders. Wyrick says many sex offenders don't obey a state law that requires them to notify police of where they're living.
The bill says a person convicted as a habitual sex offender would have to wear the GPS device for life and other sex offenders would have to wear it for ten years. The bill also requires the offenders to pay for the cost of the device.
The bill now goes to the governor.
