Two homicides reported in Lawton

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- Police were investigating two unrelated killings in Lawton, one involving a man who was shot to death and the other involving a body found in the trunk of a car.

Peter Christopher Maurek, 44, of Wichita Falls, Texas, was found dead early Sunday at the Lawton residence of his brother, Gregory Maurek, 49, Lawton police Capt. Bill Mathis said. Peter Maurek had been shot in the head.

The case was first reported as a suicide, but after Gregory Maurek was questioned, he was placed in custody on a charge of second-degree murder, Mathis said.

In the other case, the body of William Pernell Collins, 49, of Lawton was found in the trunk of his car Sunday morning. Police were waiting on a preliminary report from the state Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
