FORT SILL, Okla. (AP) _ The Army has approved Fort Sill's proposal to work with an Oklahoma group to conserve open lands outside its boundaries and prevent development in the areas.

When funds become available, the post plans to work with Tulsa-based Land Legacy to establish an Army Compatible Use Buffer to protect land near Lawton, Cache, Elgin and Medicine Park.

The plan would prevent unrestricted development in the area and ensure usage of the land is compatible with the post's mission.

Property owners who sell the developmental rights to their land to Land Legacy will be able to continue agricultural production and other compatible land uses.
