Agreement reached to end state Senate stalemate

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A political stand-off in the state Senate between Republicans and Democrats ended Wednesday and the state Senate then voted against reconsidering the bill that started the struggle.

Republican Lieutenant Governor Mary Fallin presided over the opening of Wednesday's session with Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan beside her.

The state Senate then voted 26-to-22 against a motion to reconsider a Republican-backed workers compensation reform bill.

All 26 Democrats voted against the motion and all 22 Republicans voted for it.

The bill appeared to have died last week when a legislative deadline passed, leading Fallin to try to take control of the state Senate in which Democrats hold the 26-to-22 majority.
