A Bixby 8th grader receives honors for her volunteer work. 14-year-old Brittany Easter received the "Prudential Spirit of Community" award Sunday night at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC.

She also got a $1,000 award and personal congratulations from retired Secretary of State Colin Powell. Brittany goes to Bixby Middle School, where she created a volunteer program called "GROW," which stands for Giving Reaps Only Winners.

An 18-year-old from Oklahoma City was also honored.
