WASHINGTON (AP) _ A group representing 36-thousand pharmacies wants a federal law to govern the sale of cold medicines used in making methamphetamine.

An Oklahoma law passed last year allows only pharmacies to sell cold tablets that contain pseudoephedrine and limits the amount a person can buy each month. Authorities say the law has resulted in an 80 percent drop in the number of meth labs found in the state.

Several other states have passed or are considering a similar law and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores wants to avoid a hodgepodge of state laws.
