Owasso's youngest residents have named their new community playground "Funtastic Island." The students submitted their favorite names; a panel narrowed them down to eight, and then the students voted on those eight.
Funtastic Island beat out such names as Creation Station, Fort Fun, Funtopia and Play Nation. The 40,000 square foot playground is located near the entrance of the Owasso Sports Complex.
Kenna Cataudella with the Owasso Community Foundation: "It's for all our friends in Green Country, largest in Oklahoma, handicapped accessible, pavilion coming."
The playground will be open this Sunday, Mother's Day from 2 PM to 4 PM. It will then close again so volunteers can put the finishing touches, and should reopen by the end of May.
