OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Former Governor David Walters is withdrawing from consideration to become the next chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party.

Walters sent a message to Democrats saying he does not want to cause a party split or be considered in conflict with Governor Brad Henry.

Henry and other Democratic officials earlier endorsed Lisa Pryor as chairman and Ben Odom as co-chairman. The two Norman residents are the only announced candidates for the posts, which will be decided during the party's state convention next month.

Current chairman Jay Parmley announced in February that he would not seek re-election to a third two-year term.
