Glenpool family working on an eBay vacation

Vacation time is just around the corner, but funding fun for the whole family can be expensive with gas prices at record highs and the price of everything else going up.

News on 6 reporter Rick Wells has found a family in Glenpool with an idea to create a vacation to remember.

For eight years the Doppenbergs of Glenpool have taken family vacations to lots of places taking in all the sights as long as they were free. Carol Doppenberg: "Just one year I'd love to not have to say no to anything that costs money."

So this year she's looking to eBay for a little help. The family trip is up for sale, sort of. "7 people and three dogs dressed alike is definitely going to get attention." The e-market folks in Tulsa helped her get her family ad on eBay, the Internet auction site.

This is the deal, the high bidder gets all seven family members and the dogs in logo-ed t-shirts and they'll even hang banners on the camper. "I'm not trying to make any money off this; I just want enough money to take my kids in a few places we can afford to go."

In other years, they've played at free parks, visited a building built out of petrified wood, it didn't cost to look. Occasionally they've used the Wal-Mart parking lot as a camp site. "The children were mortified the first time we did this, we woke up the next morning, honest, six other campers had pulled up beside us."

One year they took an inexpensive trip to Grand Isle, Louisiana, played on the beach and swam in the Gulf. "It's not where you go; it's that you do it together." She says having the family together away from work and phones is the important thing, but just once she'd like to make the trip special, for her kids. "I would like to one time say that yes to them." Maybe this eBay auction will help do that.
