STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Thousands of SBC customers in north-central Oklahoma were without long-distance phone service for about two hours Friday after a fiber-optic cable was damaged south of Stillwater, company officials said.
Long-distance service was out to customers in Enid, Stillwater, Guthrie, Coyle, Perry, Kingfisher, Pond Creek and Mooreland from about 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. Friday, SBC spokesman Andy Morgan said.
``Apparantly a contractor for the Highway Department was doing some roadwork and cut the line,'' Morgan said.
Morgan said the glitch had no impact on local calling or 911 emergency calls.
