OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Gov. Brad Henry has ordered flags on state property to be flown at half staff on Tuesday, the 10th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.
In an executive order signed Thursday, Henry said American and Oklahoma flags should be lowered in memory of the 168 people who died in the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building.
``We must never forget the more than 850 others who were injured and bravely live on, emblematic of our great state and nation,'' Henry said.
``The people of Oklahoma will never forget the courage and compassion of those from around the world who were involved in the rescue and recovery and who continue to share an outpouring of good will,'' the governor said.
The governor also ordered American flags to be flown on 14 flagpoles that surround the south steps of the Capitol for one week beginning Monday. State flags normally fly from the poles.
Henry plans to sign a $5 million spending bill for the Oklahoma City National Memorial at a ceremony Monday afternoon at the Survivor Tree near the former site of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
The money will be matched with federal and private funds to create an endowment that will sustain the memorial for future generations.
