Northeastern State University is celebrating the history and contributions of American Indian ideas this week.
They held the opening ceremony Thursday to kick off the 33rd Annual Symposium on the American Indian. The Cherokee Nation Color Guard presented the flags and the Miss Native American Student Association was crowned. They will hold a number of events throughout the weekend.
Dr. Phyllis Fife with the NSU Center for Tribal Studies: “We invite everyone to come for the next three days, we will be having lectures, cultural events, special announcements, one about our new Cherokee Bachelor or Arts and Education program and our theme this year is Indigenous Innovations.â€
The American Indian Symposium runs through Saturday and is free.
