The City of Tulsa can only afford to open four of its 22 swimming pools this summer, but Mayor Bill LaFortune's Adopt-a-Pool program is already helping to make sure kids have more places to swim.

Reed Park near West 41st and Union is one of the four public pools the city will open on June 11th, just after schools let out for summer. But Tulsa's HOW Foundation has donated enough money to the Mayor's Adopt-a-Pool program to open two more city pools.

Scott McGinnis with the HOW Foundation: "I can't think of a better way for an organization to spend its money, primarily because it keeps kids off the streets. I remember when I was a kid we always had places to run and jump and play, and we've just taken away so much from our children. And I don't want to see the swimming pools be another thing we've taken away."

If you'd like to contribute to the Adopt-a-Pool program, you can contact the Mayor's Action line at 596-2100.
