Mothers' Day messages from home. The holiday is still almost a month off, but that's just enough time to get cards from combat.

It's a project Principal Nancy Turlington Beck at Freedom Elementary School in Sapulpa thought would be perfect for her students. Her son is currently serving in Iraq and couldn't find a Mother's Day card to send to his wife at home with his two young children.

So his mom sent a card to him, to send back home to his wife. But you can't leave anyone out on Mothers' Day, so the kids at Freedom Elementary brought in hundreds of cards that they'll send to soldiers in Iraq.

4th grader Breeanna: "Because they don't have like a Walgreen’s or a Wal-Mart and it's hard to get the cards there to get to their mothers and wives."

4th grader Kelly: "Because it's nice for their wives and mothers to know that they're thinking about them:”

4th grader Sage: "Your mom is pretty much the one that brought you into this world and so is your grandmother because they put in your father or your mother or anybody into this world so you pretty much have to thank them for that."

2nd grader Bailey: "So we want to help them out, because they're helping out our country."

The kids plan on shipping off a big box of cards Wednesday, so they'll have enough time to make the round trip to Iraq and back home.
