With gas prices as high as they are, some folks are looking for alternative transportation or any way to save on gasoline.

News on 6 reporter Rick Wells introduces us to a Tulsa man who found the perfect gas saving vehicle, but he didn't buy it for the mileage he bought it for the fun.

Don Lambert showed the News on 6 his new Auto Rickshaw. It may be one of the first ones in Oklahoma. "It has a two gallon tank. My experience has been it's getting about 40 miles per gallon.”

He says he's wound it up to about 45 miles per hour, down hill. It has 4 forward gears and reverse. The gear shift is on the handlebars. "This is the clutch and to shift gears you rotate this handle bar like this." So let's go for a ride, because there's no fun in just looking.

Don visited Sri Lanka while he was in college. There are lots of these over there and he always wanted one, so when he moved back to Oklahoma he started looking.

As you ride around people’s reactions are different, some wave and some just stare. "It reminds me of watching an old episode of candid camera." He says it's not about getting where you're going in hurry; it's all about the journey getting there that makes this new ride so special.

Don Lambert got his Auto Rickshaw at Tulsa Scooters. It lists for about $6,500 and also comes in van and pickup truck models.
