OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A bill to provide each member of the Oklahoma National Guard with a $250,000 life insurance policy is a step closer to approval.
The bill was approved by a state House committee Wednesday and now goes to the full House for consideration. It passed the Senate earlier on a 45-to-nothing vote and if approved by the full House it would go to Governor Brad Henry.
The bill is part of the governor's Operation Homefront proposal. The proposal includes exempting half of all military retirement pay from the state income tax and allowing Oklahomans to donate part of their tax refunds to Guard families who need financial assistance.
Those bills are also awaiting action in the full state House.
