It’s been a long and winding road, but Staff Sergeant Jason Hendrix has finally made his way home.
Sharon Cole, Hendrix Family Attorney: "this is a final conclusion in a long long unfortunate process."
The 28-year-old soldier was killed by a roadside bomb near Ramadi, Iraq about six weeks ago. But his funeral was held up by a month-long custody battle over his body. His divorced parents couldn't agree on where to bury him. His mother lives in California and she wanted Jason buried there where he was born. His father Russel Hendrix wanted Jason buried in Oklahoma where he finished high school. A California judge sided with Jason's Oklahoma family.
Sharon Cole, Hendrix Family Attorney: "Some of the family from California was here and everyone was invited the family here hopes the family can be reunited and can get past this and go on."
It was a long-time coming but Sergeant Hendrix got his full military burial.Family friends called him a soldier's soldier. And that's what they want folks to remember. ot the fight over Jason's body but his life of service.
Sharon Cole: "He was a loving caring person that was true to his country believed in his country and gave his life for his country."
Cole says Jason was a true hero.
Sharon Cole, Hendrix Family Attorney: "Not only was he there fighting and going after the enemy but he was also pulling his fellow soldiers from wreckage and pulling them to safety."
