BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) A Broken Arrow man is the new state record-holder for smallmouth bass.

Karl Council was fishing the W.R. Holway Reservoir in northeastern Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon when he pulled in the 8-pound, 1-ounce brownie, according to state wildlife officials.

The fish breaks the previous record 7-pound 12-ounce smallmouth caught from Lake Texoma two years ago by Aaron Fridrich of Prague.

Council plans to donate the record fish to the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks.
