OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- President Bush's top military adviser says military base closures are needed for the US Defense Department to reduce excess infrastructure and expenses.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Richard Myers discussed the base closure and realignment -- or BRAC -- process Tuesday during a visit to Tinker Air Force Base.
Myers was in Oklahoma City to meet with Air Force cadets at an ROTC conference.
He also discussed the war on terrorism and Operation Iraqi Freedom, saying there was no definite timeline for pulling US forces out of Iraq.
He says he believes insurgent activity will be a problem for several months.
Myers says the Iraqis must draft a new constitution, which will be followed by a constitutional referendum in October. Then new elections will be held near the end of the year.
