The Bixby Police Department is taking an extra step to alert a thousand residents a minute of sexual offenders living within a half mile of them.

A recorded message from the police department gives the offender's name, address, age, race, height, weight, gender, eye color and hair color.

The recording also indicates the person is not wanted by police and should not be harassed.

Bixby is the first police department in Oklahoma to use the service.
