McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- The FBI is investigating the shooting of a Savanna man by a federal agent.
FBI spokesman Gary Johnson says a Bureau of Indian Affairs agent shot 34-year-old Matthew Gillis as he tried to run over the agent with a car.
The agent noticed a burning vehicle on US Highway 69 one-half mile south of Savanna and got out of his car to assist. According to Johnson, Gillis then sneaked into the agent's car and tried to run him over.
Gillis was shot in the shoulder and neck area. He was treated at the McAlester Regional Medical Center, then transferred to a Tulsa hospital.
The agent has not been identified.
