A Tulsa apartment fire forces dozens of residents out into the freezing cold and sends one woman to the hospital. It happened at the Pomeroy Park Apartments near 68th and Lewis.
News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims says firefighters estimate this fire caused about $150,000 worth of damage.
Three apartments had serious fire damage, the other mostly smoke. When fire fighters arrived, flames were spilling out of a second floor window at Pomeroy Park Apartments.
Investigators believe the fire started on the lower level and spread to neighboring apartments. Fire fighters evacuated the building to be on the safe side, but got the fire under control pretty quickly.
They say a woman and two young boys were staying in the apartment where the fire started. That woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance for smoke inhalation and burns.
A second family was trapped inside a second floor apartment. But they escaped through a window safely thanks to Good Samaritan Emmanuel Wise. "I ran over there and she was pushing things out the window and she said help her so I caught her and then that’s when they let two of the kids drop and she caught one of them and I helped her catch the other and then the white lady just jumped out the window and I caught her."
Fire investigators say a child playing with a lighter started the fire.
