OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A law named after a 16-year-old Ada girl who was killed by her mother's ex-boyfriend cleared a state Senate committee Tuesday.

The bill called "Caitlin's Law" is named for Catilin Wooten and now goes to the full Senate for consideration.

It requires people who are charged with a violent crime to prove they aren't a danger to the public before they're allowed to post bail. It also creates a system to notify victims when their attackers move through the criminal justice system and allows police to arrest anyone who is under a victim protection order if the person is found to have a gun.

Wooten was kidnapped from outside Ada High School in September and later killed by Jerry Don Savage who then committed suicide.

Savage was free on $250,000 bond at the time after being charged with kidnapping Wooten's mother, Donna, about three weeks earlier.

Donna Wooten said that while the bill won't bring her daughter back, it will honor her memory if it protects even one family.
