Residents in south Tulsa will soon be able to sleep a little easier knowing a new fire station is right around the corner.

Station number 9 is being built at 111th and Yale. The station serves as Tulsa's southern most fire station and will provide coverage south to the city limits.

Tulsa Fire Chief Alan LaCroix: "way south Tulsa there's time it can be 10 minutes, if that company is out of service it can 12 to 15 minutes and this will provide 4 minute response to homes in this area."

The station is being built with money from the 2001 sales tax. It will cost $3.4-million.
