OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Governor Henry wants to provide $4-million during the next two years to hire 112 more child welfare workers and give them a pay raise.
The governor said Thursday the workers would help reduce the number of child abuse and neglect cases. According to the Department of Human Services 51 children in Oklahoma died during 2004 because of abuse or neglect.
The governor says his proposal will allow the Department of Human Services to hire the additional welfare workers and give a 9 percent pay raise for child welfare and adult protective services employees.
