OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Senator Tom Coburn predicted Thursday that progress will be made toward curbing so-called pork barrel spending.

This despite the fact that 2006 is an election year when politicians like to brag about bringing federal dollars to their states.

Coburn spoke to Oklahoma reporters in a conference call. He reiterated his position that the earmarking of money for special projects, often referred to as pork barrel spending, is at the root of the current corruption scandal in Washington DC.
