SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) -- Sapulpa police say they've solved a nearly 20-year-old murder case after a man confessed to his involvement in the crime.
Rhonda Harvey's body was discovered in 1986 south of Sapulpa.
This weekend, Police Chief Jim Wall says 40-year-old John Pingleton of Sapulpa walked into the police department and told police he and another man killed the woman.
Pingleton told police he and the other man -- who police haven't identified -- picked up the woman in Tulsa and drove her to Sapulpa.
Wall says Pingleton confessed to beating the woman with a tire iron and then shooting her.
Wall says Pingleton gave detectives details of the crime that only the killer would know.
He says the second suspect is being held on unrelated charges.
