McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Gene Stipe Boulevard street signs are coming down in McAlester and being replaced with Electric Avenue signs.

City Traffic Control Specialist Ben Mauldin and Joe Beck were changing the 60 signs this week.

The McAlester city council voted on a split 5-2 vote in December to change street name.

Stipe has pleaded guilty to federal charges including conspiracy and perjury in connection with a federal investigation into the funneling of illegal contributions into Walt Roberts failed 1998 congressional campaign.
