The plumber and electrician come to your home, why shouldn't the dog groomer do the same? That's what Shari Wilder thought, and that's what she does.

News on 6 reporter Rick Wells sat in on a shampoo and snip Thursday and even helped out.

Bobbie Grimshaw has just dropped off her 12 year old Maltese named Pixie at Shari Wilder's mobile grooming van. Bobbie Grimshaw: "It's fantastic, I don’t have to take her and leave her all day, Shari gets her done in about an hour." That's it in a nutshell, so while she's running a quick errand or reading the rest of the paper, her dog gets the treatment.

Shari sees Pixie every two weeks and Pixie seems to love the attention. Mobile dog grooming like this isn't a unique idea in some parts of the country there are companies that do nothing but this. Shari Wilder: "Dallas has one company that has a whole fleet of these things." Her husband did most of the work on this one; he converted an old plumbing truck. It has a bath tub, a 50-gallon water tank and plenty of electricity and storage.

Handling dogs comes naturally. Shari Wilder: "I was raised on 20 acres out in the country we always had dogs." The mobile part of this is a big plus, doing what she likes the way she likes to do it. "I like to travel in between; I'm not stuck all day in an office chair."

Pixie seems to love it too; gee I even got in on the act. A couple of bows for Pixie's hair and that's it.

Shari has a website with more information on how you could have your dogs shampooed and snipped right there in the driveway.
