OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Of more than 600 police chases by Oklahoma City police between 2003 and 2005, only three have been called off because of safety concerns.
Police released the figures to The Oklahoman in response to an open records request by the newspaper.
One of those chases called off was the one that claimed the life of police Sergeant John Dragus. Police are reviewing their pursuit policies after a string of fatal wrecks resulting from pursuits late last year.
The other two chases ended because of safety concerns were from 2004.
Tulsa Police ended more chases in one four-month period last year than Oklahoma City police did in three years. Tulsa Deputy Police Chief Mark Andrus says supervisors ended four chases during the third quarter of 2005.
