EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) -- Nearly two years after the shooting death of a Eufaula City Councilman, investigators say they're hopeful the case still can be solved.

Councilman Larry Allen Nichols was found dead in the kitchen of his lakefront home January 25th, 2004, with a bullet wound to the head. A casing from a .22-caliber weapon lay next to the 67-year-old's body. Signs of a struggle existed, but no forced entry.

To date, no charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent John Jones says he officially closed the case September 8th when he submitted his final report to the McIntosh County district attorney's office. In Jones' report, he identified one male and one female suspect.

But Assistant District Attorney Rob Barris says the initial report wasn't sufficient to file charges and that he's reviewing some additional information.
